It always seems weird to count how many times a child has experienced an annual event, because it’s always one more than their age since their birthday is the last thing they do before turning another year older. Thus, even though Ellie is only 3, this is already her fourth Christmas, which just seems nuts!
We didn’t do too much over the holiday and just enjoyed each other’s company with few other commitments to get in the way. It was much needed. Continue reading “Ellie’s 4th (!) Christmas”
Ellie was born and raised in Florida, so for her, 65F (18C) is cool.
However, in March we’ll be moving permanently to Portland, OR. As such, Ellie is going to need a little adjustment to what the weather is like outside of the tropics. Continue reading “Preparing for Portland”
This summer, Ellie started school. She’s currently going three mornings a week and it’s been fantastic for her. She’s making friends, enjoying the independence and it’s making her much more confident and assertive.
The other day was the first time I got to take her to school and meet her teachers and classmates and I’m really happy with where she is. I’m very happy that we made the decision to have her go. Continue reading “Ellie’s first day at school”
This 4th of July, we took a trip to MA and NH to visit family, attend a christening and enjoy the summer in New England.
While there, Ellie got to know her second cousins Addison, Mason and Emmerson much better and enjoyed all sorts of outings and events, like the 4th of July parade, Santa’s Village and she even got to sit in the cockpit of the plane that took her to Boston! Continue reading “Ellie’s trip to NH and MA over 4th of July”
Many months ago, Mama mentioned to Ellie the possibility of her getting a bike for her birthday and since that day, she has professed to everyone that she “is getting a bike for her birthday”.
So we couldn’t really fail her. We celebrated her birthday a little early since we had family visiting, but her reaction when she got her bike was hysterical. She had this nervous laughter that she couldn’t quite believe she got a bike. She was a bit shaky at first, but within 24 hours she’s already zooming around. The weekend before last was Mother’s Day here in the States and we wanted to honour the woman who keeps this family running and does so with little thanks and little complaining.
Marti, you are incredible and we are blessed to have you in our lives. We (all) love you.

Ellie is at the perfect age for enjoying Christmas with. She’s starting to be more aware of what to expect and you can see the excitement and anticipation in her much more than last year. It’s been a whole lot of fun – perhaps too much fun. It’s been a whirlwind and it was maybe a bit too excitement for her, but it’s only once a year and I think it was worth it in the end. I can’t get over how gorgeous she is!
Ellie was even kind enough to help Jack open some of his own presents and generally be a great big sister to him.
Jack’s first Christmas

Last weekend, we thought we’d treat Ellie by putting up some Christmas lights in her room. This is the big reveal and Ellie was so excited to look at each light. It’s now the first thing she does every morning.

Ellie was lucky enough to spend some time with Tante Alexa this past weekend, who was home for a few days over Thanksgiving. Continue reading “Chilling with Tante Alexa”
It’s been a couple of weeks since Ellie’s birthday now, but we’ve only just had enough time to download the photos and sort through them.
We had a really enjoyable time at Dell Holmes Park in St Pete: Ellie and all of her friends made the most of the splashpad in the blistering hot weather. Continue reading “Ellie’s 2nd birthday”
